Sophia McDowell, Project Reflection, Week 11

The group project, in the end, was quite successful! My contribution included note taking, creating the groups, helping facilitate the scene work and print off all of the copies. A lot of the work done on this group project fell upon the same 2-5 people, so I don't believe the work load was distributed fairly.

However, visiting LFCSA was so fun. The kids were very responsive to the scene work we did from "Midsummer Night's Dream"! I'm so thankful for this experience to connect with them and to share our artistic practices with them. The acting kids were so open minded and took direction quite well. Overall, I'm glad that we could establish a good connection with them and that they had a good time!!

Art and Social Change Invisible Theatre Invisible Theatre is the art of creating a performance in spaces that are not stages. The people who witness it cannot be aware it is a performance or else they would become spectators. The way this can be done is creating a solid and locked script that the actors stick to but also know it so well it allows flexibility and the ability for them to mess with it when the people witnessing the act give input or there is any disruption. The actors will prepare for anything when it comes to their performance. It is imperative to choose a location where people gather in large groups in the public. While reading some of the monuments pieces I felt as if each of them had something that they needed to prove. For example, for the Tate piece felt the need to expose what history has done to people. Each level exposed how much each person was taken advantage of in service of someone else. For the rumors of war piece exposed the whole idealism of the past resurrecting a past historical leader to make sure that the event does not happen again. The Bracero monument exposed all of the work that the people of that time had done in order to make sure that not another person is taken advantage of again. But truth be told, all of these monuments have come with some sort of backlash. The bracero monument had gotten criticism for stating that the braceros were free to do what they wished. Cy Krafft - Week 5 - Beautiful Trouble

I chose three tactics for my response. Inflatables, light brigade, and hoax. The inflatable tactic stood out to me because the entry description seemed to be the opposite of what I would expect. Having giant inflatables bouncing around a protest would indeed lower the seriousness of a protest, but not in a positive way. A protest with a bunch of beach balls and balloons floating around wouldn't strike me as a group that takes its own issue seriously. But on the other hand, inflated figures on their own can have a very effective message of ridicule (see the Trump balloon). I thought the light brigade tactic was very clever. It's a relatively accessible method of sharing a message, as battery powered fairy lights are sold basically everywhere. It's also very eye-catching and legible from a distance, versus normal protest posters that are either illegible at a distance or expensive to produce in large scale.
