Jake Jolley - Week 5 - Beautiful Trouble

- Principles:
"Brand or be Branded"

-"Branding can make the difference between success and failure. Every movement wants its message to be heard, but simply being right won’t sell your ideas. The human mind needs to be persuaded."
-Everyone can have a great idea, but while that idea may seem great to you, it may not sound that great to other people. Why? Because they don't hold the same understanding of that idea that you do, the context, the backstory, the message, its all left unknown. You need to give people a reason to believe, to support. Through branding, you create the image, the light in the dark to follow. If you don't put up that image you leave the risk of someone making it for you, and it might not always end up in the way you envisioned it, further leading away from your cause.

- Tactic:
"Media Jacking"

-"Show, don't tell"
-Often when you hear or see something you don't believe in or know isn't quite true you tend to speak up. Yet in many cases, it's not just the words that move them, its the notion behind it. There's a difference between yelling "This is so wrong, Boycott this!" and "This is insensitive and wrong because it's wiping out the rainforest". When you provide a reason people are more likely to follow, therefore when you are aiming to make an opposition to a power you can better steal their platform by furthering their own propaganda against them.

- Theory:
"The Propaganda Model"

- "The model suggests that media outlets will consistently produce news content that aligns with the interests of political and economic elites."
- In the United States, we are known to have "Freedom of the Press" but more and more we keep running into the term "Fake News". When at one point we had a very acute news system updating us of the real going on's around the world. Now, we are running into issues with a flood of news outlets trying to make a name fabricating stories trying to get attention. These stories are further going viral and getting picked up and reported on by larger outlets, further helping to spread false information. Anyone in power, or even in the right position could leak false info to one of these outlets, and with a good headline, end up with widespread misinformation, or propaganda.

Emmanuel Bradshaw-Monuments article-wk4

While reading some of the monuments pieces I felt as if each of them had something that they  needed to prove. For example, for the Tate piece felt the need to expose what history has done to  people. Each level exposed how much each person was taken advantage of in service of someone  else. For the rumors of war piece exposed the whole idealism of the past resurrecting a past historical  leader to make sure that the event does not happen again. The Bracero monument exposed all of the  work that the people of that time had done in order to make sure that not another person is taken  advantage of again. But truth be told, all of these monuments have come with some sort of backlash.  The bracero monument had gotten criticism for stating that the braceros were free to do what they  wished. From what the article had stated that was not the truth. It was merely one persons  interpretation of what a bracero was, b...
