ReplyDeleteMy biggest thought that spoke the most into my mind was when did the artist know that they had done enough?
As an artist I feel that there is never a stage where I can stop and say i have done enough. I tend to say to myself that I can do more but feel as if the work I have done is not enough. As a class we looked at The work of Lumiere where they had never been truly recognised as a group for what they had contributed to society. They had retired from cinema before gettign recognised for what they had done as visionaries.
The other question that seems to linger in my mind is the concept of doing something for its own sake. As a class we had discussed this concept but it had intrigued me nonetheless. Where does the line blur between doing something as an inspiration vs doing something as an inspiration towards itself
Those are my thoughts
This class was very eye opening. In class when we began talking about ideas of individualism in art and romanticism in theater large images and ideas began to come to life for me. The Casper David Friedrich painting entitled The Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog truly resonated with me and has now become a notable piece of art in my personal list.
ReplyDeleteThe biggest question that strikes me is if the artists were as aware of their effect and influence on the community with their respective pieces and contributions to the culture, seen as it is now that we regard these events with such reverence.
